Food is more than something to
still one's hunger or silence one's cravings. Food is a choice we make
for ourselves and our surroundings; it is not just a personal choice; it
is an ethical choice. There is a need to consider our present actions as
they will impact the future. Good food is produced on land, where
holistic decision making is being used by management.
Our family is working together to
bring to you the same quality product that we are enjoying every day.
Best
for the Land
Our family's grass farming
practices are beneficial to the land. Manure is naturally deposited upon
the soil as the animals graze. Their cloven-hooves massage the pastures,
preventing capping of the soil and helping to bury seeds for
germination. The cattle are moved regularly from one area of grazing to
the next, to optimize manure distribution and grass regrowth.
No herbicides, pesticides, or
artificial fertilizers are applied to any of our land; the first step to
ensuring that the meat you buy from us is a good choice.
Best
for the Animals
On the Rafter 25 Ranch the cattle
are handled by low-stress methods. Our mature grass-finished animals are
not treated with antibiotics, chemical parasite control products or
growth-promoting implants. No grain, or animal by-products are fed to
any of our ruminant animals. They are simply left to do what nature
intended: Eat grass. The cows here are bred by bulls. We have happy
cows.
We enjoy a wide variety of
wildlife on our ranch. Predation of our livestock is being discouraged
with the help of guardian dogs.
Best
for You
Grassfed meat contains from two to
six times more natural Omega-3 fatty acids than grainfed meat.
Grassfed animal products are the
best source of CLA (conjugated linoleic acid). The fat of grassfed
animals is high in beta-carotene (vitamin A) which can give it that
rich, slightly orange colour and butter like texture. It tastes Great!
Health is about finding a
nutritional balance that is right for you. Treat yourself to more
healthy choices. Eating good meats, fresh organically grown fruits and
vegetables, as well as raw milk products and exercising both mentally
and physically will help you achieve optimum health!
