Why Grassfed is Best
by Jo Robinson

An overview by Felix

Jo Robinson has been called the maven of the Grassfed movement.  The sixty pages are an easy read and loaded with well researched information.  She shows the difference between grass farmers and conventional ranchers, grass cattle and commercial cattle.
Twenty million pounds of antibiotics are used in the U.S. alone by the livestock industry and as far as I know antibiotics are not biodegradable.
She talks about heart patients, breast cancer, attention deficit disorder (ADD), depression and how Omega-3 fatty acids and CLA (which are both plentiful in grassfed products) can help in preventing these diseases.
The feared E-coli 0157:H7 is a real problem with grainfed animals but really of no concern when you eat grassfinished meats.
The section on poultry and eggs is highly informative and a real eye-opener.
The back of the book consists of a list of forty pages of pasture-intensive farms in Canada and the U.S.
Jasmine and I have heard Jo speak on two occasions, she was on the Oprah Winfrey Show and she knows what she is talking about!

Fast Food Nation
by Eric Schlosser

An overview by Felix

In well-researched Fast Food Nation,
Eric Schlosser reveals the real cost of cheap food:
The loss of health, of land and people.
But hope shows in one of his last sentences: Whatever replaces the Fast Food Industry should be regional, diverse, authentic, unpredictable, sustainable, profitable-and humble.
Food we eat should not only be the fuel that helps us replacing almost all of our body cells every six weeks.
It is meant to give us real pleasure every time we eat it. And real eating pleasure can only be reached when food not only tastes good but when you also know in your heart that it is good for you.
Buy food from real people , who grow what they sell on healthy land.
Keep in mind:  You are what you eat!

Have fun reading!
